Skeletonwitch Delivers Explosive Energy In "Devouring Radiant Light"

Metal is always best when it comes in its classic form: explosive. Skeletonwitch delivers explosive energy in Devouring Radiant Light, their new record that combines melodic sections with thrilling and violent ones to make for a dynamic and intense experience.

Devouring Radiant Light begins broodingly, the guitars of 'Fen Of Shadows' introducing the record with a captivating dance. It's not long before the explosive drums and riffs kick in, though, and when it gets going, it really does not let up. Many of Skeleteonwitch's songs on this record have definitive parts that don't exactly line-up with a verse or chorus, but you can be assured that 'Fen Of Shadows' definitely comes together with many huge parts at play. 'Temple Of The Sun' is even more thrilling, and the wonderful melodic part where sung vocals and screamed ones come together is one of the highlights of the record.

Skeletonwitch never lets up on this record, and every song is one punch after the other. 'When Paradise Fades' has wild pacing, huge drums drilling the song forward, while the same can be said for title track 'Devouring Radiant Light.' 'Carnarium Eternal' goes straight into the heavy intensity, not taking any time to build up and instead being a three-minute violent onslaught of screams and riffs. There are some moments that allow for reprieve, though, like the epic instrumental intro of 'The Vault' and parts of the dark, dramatic end track 'Sacred Soil.'

Skeletonwitch delivers explosive energy in Devouring Radiant Light, bringing chaos and thrill from start to finish. It's rare to see a metal album come together with such a specific and methodical drive and energy like this, and it all comes together for the best.
